Joseph Kaminsky

Joseph Kaminsky has taught violin over 50 years, and was the MoASTA 2014 “Artist Teacher of the Year”. He was trained by Shinichi Suzuki, John Kendall, and Almita Vamos. Mr. Kaminsky taught beginning strings for 25 years with the Kirkwood School District. His former private students play or have played professionally in the New York Philharmonic, Indianapolis Symphony, Milwaukee Symphony, Kansas City Symphony, Copenhagen Symphony, Arkansas Symphony, and the Honolulu Symphony. His students have been accepted from his studio as freshmen into Julliard Music School, Cleveland Institute of Music, Oberlin Conservatory, Indiana University, Peabody Conservatory, and Vanderbilt University. Students that Mr. Kaminsky started on violin currently direct the high school orchestras at Parkway Central and Kirkwood. But the vast majority of his students have just gone on to their chosen fields, enhanced by the discipline, cognitive skills, and love of music that a Suzuki education can bring.

As a Suzuki Teacher-Trainer, Mr. Kaminsky has taught over 250 workshops/institutes in 33 states, Canada, Puerto Rico, at the 2006 International String Conference in Singapore, and at the 1999 World Suzuki Conference in Matsumoto Japan.

As a performer, Joseph Kaminsky currently plays Principal 2nd Violin with the Metropolitan Orchestra of St. Louis, and with the Landolf String Quartet. He has played with the Fox Orchestra, MUNY Orchestra, Bach Society Orchestra, and has backed up such diverse artists as Luciano Pavorotti, Sarah Brightman, Christine Brewer, The Eagles, The Who, The Beach Boys, The Moody Blues, Barry Manilow, Robert Plant, and Peter Cetera of Chicago.

Mr. Kaminsky has a YouTube Channel featuring videos of his students at every age modeling performances as a teaching aid: https://www.youtube.com/@JosephKaminsky-r1v
